U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., called on Congress to pass U.S. Rep. Carlos Gimenez’s, R-Fla. , “America Reopens Act.”
The bill, which Gimenez introduced last week, “ends all federal-level mandates of COVID-19 restrictions, including ending the federal mask mandate on systems of transportation such as U.S. airlines.”
“Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, federal officials implemented restrictive and illogical guidelines that trampled the individual liberties of Americans—this severe federal overreach must end,” said Donalds. “As America enters into a post-pandemic society, it is time for the federal government and Washington bureaucrats to follow the science. I’m proud to support this legislation that aims to repeal these outdated policies and re-open America.”
Besides Donalds, Florida Republican U.S. Reps. Kat Cammack and Maria Elvira Salazar are co-sponsoring the bill.
With Democrats controlling both chambers of Capitol Hill, the bill will have a tough time passing. Gimenez’s bill was sent to the U.S. House Education and Labor, the Transportation and Infrastructure, the Energy and Commerce and the Judiciary Committees last week. So far, there is no companion measure in the U.S. Senate.
