This week, U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., who sits on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, announced more federal funds for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA).
Back in May and June, Crist announced that PSTA was receiving around $23.5 million to create a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line from downtown St. Petersburg to the beaches.
Crist announced PSTA is getting an additional $40.3 million grant to help it during the coronavirus pandemic. The funds are part of the $2.3 trillion coronavirus stimulus package that the White House and Congress agreed to at the end of March. The funds will be distributed by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
“Keeping our public transit system up and running during the pandemic is critical to our economy, getting people who rely on these services where they need to go,” said Crist on Wednesday.
“This grant will keep PSTA workers on the job and provide special aid for our neighbors with disabilities who cannot use fixed-route services,” Crist added. “Let’s keep Pinellas moving forward!”
