A new poll shows Floridians have soured on Gov. Ron DeSantis thanks in large part to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mason Dixon released a poll of Florida voters on Friday which found almost half of those surveyed–49 percent–disapprove of DeSantis’ performance as governor while 45 percent approve of him. This is a major drop from December when a Mason Dixon poll showed 65 percent of Florida voters approved of the governor.

“DeSantis’ approval numbers have dropped across the board. Not surprisingly, his impressive numbers among Democrats were his biggest fall – declining from 41 percent to 17 percent,” Mason Dixon noted. “But he has also lost approval among Republicans (down 11-points) and independents (down 17-points). Among all demographic groups, DeSantis’ decline is as follows: men (-18 percent), women (-17 percent), whites (-19 percent), blacks (-18 percent), Hispanics (-5 percent), voters <50 (-20 percent) and voters 50+ (-15 percent).”

The poll also shows DeSantis is losing support across all parts of the state.

“Regionally, DeSantis is down 9-points in North Florida, 18-points in Central Florida, 19-points in Tampa Bay, 12-points in Southwest Florida and 23-points in Southeast Florida,” Mason Dixon noted.

The poll of 625 Florida voters was taken from July 20 through July 23 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.
