Could The Property Tax Amendment Go Down the Same Path as The 2024 Marijuana Amendment?

Any amendment on the Florida ballot needs 60% to pass.

A recent poll conducted by the Sachs Media firm shows the if the election were held today, the property tax cut proposal would pass with 64% of the vote.

SUPPORT AMONG THE POLITICAL GROUPS

87% of Republican voters support the proposal. 62% of Independents would back it but only 35% of Democrats gave it a thumbs up.

Those that rent in Florida also support the tax amendment. Sachs poll found 64% of renters are on board.

There were some mixed signals from renters. A plurality (42%) said iif proposal passed, it would help them feel encouraged to own a home, but 25% said it wouldn’t affect them and they would continue to rent.

But some critics aren’t convinced the tax amendment will pass based on past polling data.

In the summer of 2024, polling numbers showed that 66% of Florida voters would support the marijuana amendment and those numbers barely moved going into the fall.

In Mid-October, just a few weeks before the 2024 November election, a poll released by the (UNF) University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab found 66% of Florida voters intended to vote “yes” on Amendment 3.

In fact, the researchers at UNF said Amendment 3 was “garnering significant momentum before Election Day.”

But the amendment failed surprising many analysts. The final vote was 56% said yes with 44% saying no, which was way shorter than what the polls were telling voters.

Polling over the last year by groups like the James Madison Institute show the property tax amendment getting support of over 60% by Florida voters. But when question came about cutting potential local government services being affected, support for the proposal saw its number drop.
