Democrats winning in Florida will still be a steep climb at the state and Congressional level
Political Action Committee Future Dems PAC is endorsing a nationwide slate of candidates and is currently targeting the Florida House District, which is held by GOP Congressman Randy Fine.
WHY RANDY FINE’S DISTRICT?
Democrats think they may have a shot at the Congressman seat, considering that in last year’s special election, Fine’s total numbers underperformed compared to the winning spread of his predecessor and President Trump.
In 2024, then Congressman Mike Waltz received 67% of the vote, and President Trump got 65%. In 2025, Fine only received 57%.
Democrats think they could pick up a few disgruntled Republicans and independents, noting that Fine isn’t the most popular congressman, even among local Republicans.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made it known he is no fan of Fine. Some in the MAGA movement, such as Steve Bannon, said they weren’t impressed with Fine’s run last year.
There have been Republicans in St. Johns County who have implied on social media that Fine rubs them the wrong way and didn’t like the fact that he carpetbagged his way into the district.
But Democrats will have a hill to climb if they think they can achieve victory against the Congressman.
The district is heavily Republican, which includes red counties like Marion, St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, Volusia, and Lake.
And even the Future Dems PAC leadership admits that while they may not win in 2026, they are here for the long run. Fine.
“Early investments signal a commitment to rebuilding trust, elevating next-generation leadership, and strengthening durable Democratic power across key states to win in 2026 and beyond,” said the group.
Future Dems PAC said it wants to help Democrats meet a changing electorate with bold new voices “capable of winning.”
But unless Congressman Fine’s seat goes through a major change in the redistricting process, Congressman Fine is almost certain to win his reelection bid this November.
