TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday that he will ask the state Cabinet to approve a plan to convey land in downtown Miami for the future Donald J. Trump Presidential Library.
At the Sept. 30, 2025, meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund, DeSantis said he will propose deeding a 2.63-acre parcel adjacent to the historic Freedom Tower. The property is currently used as a parking lot for Miami-Dade College’s Wolfson Campus.
“President Trump has achieved results for the American people and made a lasting impact on our nation’s history,” DeSantis said in a statement. “No state has better delivered the President’s agenda than the Free State of Florida, and we would be honored to house his presidential library here in his home state.”
The Board of Trustees, which oversees state lands, is made up of DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, and Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson. Established in 1855, the board manages the acquisition, protection and disposition of public land.
If approved, the Miami site would mark the first presidential library located in Florida. Supporters of the plan say it could create economic development opportunities in South Florida while honoring Trump, who served as the nation’s 45th and 47th president.
