Florida Ranks Fifth in Casino Jobs in the US

It’s not Vegas, but when it comes to gambling jobs, Florida comes in at number 5.

Industry journal Casino Reports says the Sunshine State ranked fifth with an average of 4,859 jobs per casino site. It reported a total of 72,892 jobs across 15 casinos and an economic impact of $12.7 billion for the state. The largest casino complex in Florida is Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tampa, with over 5,000 Vegas-style slot machines and over 110 tables.

Experts from Casino Reports analyzed data from the American Gambling Association to determine the total number of casinos and casino jobs in every state from last year, allowing for a calculation to find the average number of jobs at each casino. These results were then ranked from highest to lowest. Some states were removed from the final ranking due to missing data or having restricted gambling laws.

With Florida given the number 5 ranking, these other states stacked higher.

Connecticut has the highest average number of casino jobs per site out of all states with an average of 13,168 jobs per casino site. It reported a total of 26,336 jobs across two casinos and an economic impact of $4.14 billion for the state. The largest casino complex in Connecticut is the Foxwoods Resort, which includes six casinos, a hotel, and more than 250 different gaming tables.

Massachusetts ranked second with an average of 5,804 jobs per casino site. With an economic impact of $3.82 billion from the industry, it reported a total of 17,413 jobs across three casinos. The biggest casino complex in Massachusetts is Encore Boston Harbor, which is a luxury resort and casino with a hotel, retail outlets, and restaurants.

New Jersey came third with an average of 5,759 jobs per casino site. It reported a total of 51,834 jobs across nine casinos and an economic impact of $11.88 billion for the state. The largest casino complex in New Jersey is Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, which is the top-grossing casino in Atlantic City with around 180 table games.

North Carolina ranked fourth with an average of 5,058 jobs per casino site. With an economic impact of $2.65 billion from the industry, it reported a total of 15,175 jobs across three casinos. The biggest casino complex in North Carolina is Harrah’s Cherokee, which is a casino and hotel with over 100 gaming tables.

Other states in the top ten include Rhode Island, Maryland, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

“This study highlights the significant impact that the gambling and casino industry has on both the local economy and the career opportunities available in each state. With many of these sites including hotels, arcades, and other attractions to draw in guests, more job positions are created that would otherwise not have existed. It would be interesting to see if these numbers continue to rise or decline in the years to come,” said Adam Small, Founder of Casino Reports.
