Florida Republicans Support Impeaching DHS Secretary Over the Border

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and State Attorney General Ashley Moody are both on board supporting the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his failure for not taking control of the U.S. border.

“Yes, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be impeached,Mayorkas has disregarded his oath of office and the Constitution by letting in 8 million illegal aliens. One of the reasons we have such bad outcomes in Washington is because no one is ever held accountable,” said the Governor.

In 2022, Attorney General Moody previously led a multistate effort calling for Mayorkas to resign and urged Congress to impeach Mayorkas back in April of 2023.

“Monthly encounter numbers continue to break records, and it is clear that there is no end in sight,” said Moody.

Republicans in the U.S. House held a series of impeachment hearings and say they are close to bringing up a vote to impeach the DHS Secretary.

As of now, most, if not all the elected GOP representatives from the state support the impeachment.

“We have witnessed this mess for the last three years and all we get are excuses from the DHS Secretary on why things can’t get any better at our border,’ says Florida Congressman Aaron Bean.

DHS Sec Mayorkas originally said the mass illegal immigration into the U.S. was temporary, then blamed it on the climate, then blamed it on the Trump administration, now he tells Congress the mass migration coming into the U.S. are those fleeing wars from countries that have economic instability and political repression. But to this day still refuses to call it a crisis.

Looking back at history, the only time a Cabinet secretary was impeached was in 1876, when President Ulysses Grant’s war secretary, William Belknap, took kickbacks in government contracts.

Florida Democrats accuse the GOP of waiting time and say they both parties should work together to fix the problems.

Democrats know this is a losing issue for them in 2024. Polling shows most voters consider this as a top issue in this year’s election.

Republicans expect a vote could take place any day leading into February.
