AAA released a study on Monday showing the average gallon of gas in Florida cost $2.33 on Sunday, falling six cents from the start of last week and hitting a new low for 2020.

In the past 11 days, the price of the average gallon of gas in Florida fell nine cents. Over the past month, the price of the average gallon of gas in the Sunshine State dropped 23 cents.

While Florida remains under the national average of $2.44 a gallon, Mark Jenkins, a spokesman, for AAA and the Auto Club Group, warned that prices at the pump should rise soon.

“Florida drivers continue to benefit from strong refinery output and low fuel demand, which have contributed to the seasonal slump at the pump,” said Jenkins. “Unfortunately, these low gas prices may not linger terribly long. Florida gas prices could rise anywhere from 20-60 cents this spring, as demand rises and refineries switch to the more expensive-to-produce summer gasoline.”

West Palm Beach-Boca Raton had the most expensive gas in the state at $2.48 a gallon followed by Gainesville and Miami which both saw an average of $2.41 a gallon.

Punta Gorda had the least expensive gas in the state at $2.24 a gallon followed by Orlando and the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area at $2.25 a gallon.
