AAA released a report on Sunday showing gas prices are dropping in Florida despite some gas being contaminated at the Port of Tampa.
The average gallon of gas in Florida cost $3.71 on Sunday, down from $3.82 at the start of last week. The national average stood at $3.82 a gallon on Sunday.
“The price of oil fell to its lowest level in a month, further reducing the cost of producing gasoline,” said Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA and the Auto Club Group.
Still, AAA warned about contaminated gas in the Sunshine State.
“Over the weekend, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services identified a potentially widespread fuel contamination caused by human error at the Port of Tampa. Fuel purchased after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, at stations supplied by Citgo from the Port of Tampa has a strong likelihood of gasoline reportedly being contaminated with diesel,” AAA noted. “Representatives with the Florida Petroleum Marketers Association report that upon realizing the error, the affected gas stations stopped selling the fuel, are either currently or have completed the process of emptying their tanks, and should be back to normal operations Monday or Tuesday.”
A list of the gas stations with the contaminated gas can be found here.
The West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area had the most expensive gas in the state on Sunday at $3.87 a gallon, followed by Naples and Gainesville at $3.81 a gallon.
The Crestview-Fort Walton Beach area had the least expensive gas in Florida at $3.49 a gallon, followed by Pensacola at $3.50 a gallon and Panama City at $3.54 a gallon.
