Gas prices in the Sunshine State rose last week, according to a new report from AAA.
The average gallon of gas in Florida cost $3.69 on Sunday, up eight cents since the start of last week.
Across the nation, the average gallon of gas cost $3.88 on Sunday.
Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA and the Auto Club Group, weighed in on why gas prices were increasing.
“Global fuel supplies continue to tighten, putting upward pressure on oil prices and subsequently, the price of gasoline,” said Jenkins.
“OPEC oil production cuts have caused crude oil prices to strengthen through the past month. On Friday, the U.S. price of oil closed at $90.77 per barrel. That was the highest daily price of 2023, and the most expensive since early November 2022,” AAA noted. “Sunday’s state average remains 16 cents below this year’s high of $3.85 per gallon. On average, Florida drivers are currently paying $55 to fill an average-sized tank of gas. That’s nearly $3 less than when gas prices were at their 2023 peak.”
The West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area had the most expensive gas in the state on Sunday with an average of $3.84 a gallon, followed by Naples at $3.74 a gallon and Gainesville at $3.72 a gallon.
Panama City had the lowest gas prices in the state with an average of $3.49 a gallon, followed by Pensacola and the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach area, which both had an average of $3.51 a gallon.
