JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three North Florida men have been indicted on federal charges related to an alleged dog fighting operation, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.
A federal grand jury charged Drew Geer, 42, of Lake Butler; Anthony Crosby, 42, of Keystone Heights; and Leroy Halbert, 53, of Lake Butler with three counts each of possession of dogs for use in dog fighting ventures.
In addition to the dog fighting charges, Geer and Crosby were each indicted on one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
If convicted, Geer and Crosby each face up to 30 years in federal prison, while Halbert faces a maximum sentence of 15 years.
According to the indictments, the three men allegedly possessed at least three dogs each on Dec. 10, 2025, that were used in dog fighting ventures. Prosecutors also allege that Geer and Crosby possessed firearms on that date despite knowing they had prior felony convictions that prohibited them from legally possessing firearms.
Federal authorities arrested Geer on May 20, and he remains detained pending trial. His trial is currently scheduled for July. Crosby and Halbert were arrested on May 29.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Cannizzaro is prosecuting the case.
Federal officials emphasized that an indictment is only a formal accusation and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
