Gus Bilirakis: Almost $14 Million in Community Project Funds Headed to Tampa Bay Area

This week, U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., announced that all ten of the community project funding requests he submitted this year were approved.

These projects will bring a total $13.79 million in federal funding to the Tampa Bay area. When this year’s application process opened, Bilirakis received dozens of roposals from local governments, municipalities, and non-profit organizations throughout the state of Florida.

The funds headed to Florida’s 12th Congressional District, include:

• The Oldsmar State Street Drainage Ditch ($1.6 million)
Rural Northeast Pasco Community Park Site Acquisition ($1.0 million)
• The Dade City Wastewater Treatment Plant ($1.75 million)
• The Zephyrhills Lift Station and Force Main Project ($1.5 million)
• The Pinellas County Tidal Check Valves Project ($240,000)
• The Pinellas County Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Public Safety System ($1.75 million)
The Mental Health Collaborative Project between Premier Community Health Center and Community Health Centers of Pinellas County ($2 million)
• The AmSkills Workforce Training Innovation Center ($3 million)
• The U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking Prevention Initiative in Tampa Bay ($750,000)
• The Pasco-Pinellas Public Defender’s Office’s INTERCEPT Project ($200,000)

Bilirakis weighed in this week on the funds.

“While I am no proponent of big government spending, I have a duty to ensure my community receives its fair share of allocated federal resources and to be transparent about my efforts to prioritize these important projects. These projects will help strengthen our local infrastructure, benefit our community and assist local residents, ” said Bilirakis.
