Jimmy Patronis Urges Floridians Take Advantage of Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

State Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis recently urged Floridians to take advantage of the 2023 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, which begins Monday, July 24, 2023 and ends on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

“Getting ready for the new school year can be an expensive time for Floridians, and that is why I’m encouraging Florida families to take full advantage of the back-to-school sales tax holiday,” said Patronis. “This tax break will help families ensure their children have all the supplies they need to reach their full academic potential this school year. A huge thank you to Governor DeSantis and the Legislature for passing and signing this important sales tax holiday. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity!”

During this sales tax holiday period, qualifying items will be exempt from tax, including: clothing, footwear, and certain accessories with a sales price of $100 or less per item, certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item, learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less, personal computers and certain computer-related accessories with a sales price of $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.

For more information and a list of qualifying items, please review the Department of Revenue’s 2023 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Tax Information Publication (TIP) as well as their Frequently Asked Questions for consumers and businesses.
