Last week, U.S. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., named two Republicans in the Florida delegation–U.S. Reps. Neal Dunn and Michael Waltz–to his China Task Force (CTF).
The CTF “will build off their comprehensive report released last year by generating additional cross-jurisdictional policy solutions for our strategic competition with the People’s Republic of China (PRC),” including “probing the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) coverup of the origins of COVID-19, explain how to best protect our supply chains, and ensure our military and diplomats are properly resourced” and will “focus on how to win the technological and economic competition and how to best counter the CCP’s malign influence at home and abroad.”
U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, will lead the task force. Waltz served on it last year.
For his part, Dunn welcomed his new assignment.
“China is a foreign agitator and a serious threat to the United States and our allies. China’s actions leading up to and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic are just the tip of the iceberg. The Chinese Communist Party is responsible for numerous civil rights and safety violations, and must be held accountable,” said Dunn. “I’m grateful to Leader Kevin McCarthy, Congressman Michael McCaul, and Republican leadership for recognizing my unique experience and selecting me to serve on this task force and to begin to hold China accountable.”
“To counter the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party, we must draw upon our members’ diverse backgrounds and expertise. As an Army surgeon, the president of a large medical practice, and former board member of Space Florida and Enterprise Florida, Congressman Neal Dunn is uniquely equipped to assist the China Task Force in developing policy solutions to help win our strategic competition with China,” said McCarthy. “Whether it’s uncovering the origins of COVID, protecting our medical supply chains, or determining how to outmaneuver China economically and technologically, Congressman Dunn’s immense qualifications will be an invaluable resource for the task force.”
