DeSantis Signs Bill Allowing Owners to Kill Black Bears that Enter Homes
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation allowing people to kill black bears on their property, but requires them to report their kill to FWC within 24 hours, and doesn’t allow for the bears to be kept or eaten.
H.B. 87 provides a stand-your-ground defense for Florida residents to shoot and kill black bears on their property to defend themselves and their property.
Rental Prices Slowing Down
Florida Atlantic University (FAU) reports that renters are seeing their prices moderate but barely. Statewide, prices are just under 1%. In South Florida, prices remain at 4%.
Prices stabilizing? FAU says the numbers are trending where they should be, but they’re not declining.
In bigger cities like Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa, more rental property is being built to help soften the cost, but this is not happening in South Florida.
Some rental properties in South Florida are seeing two—or three-bedroom homes rent for $4,000 to $5,000 a month.
However, analysts say that over the next 12 months, prices may stabilize and drop a little.

And for those that like lobster hunt, DeSantis announced an additional day has been added to the lobster mini-season.
The mini-season, Wed., July 24, and Thurs., July 25, will start 10 days earlier for Florida residents on Sun., July 14. The regular commercial and recreational lobster season will begin on Aug. 6, 2024, and end on March 31, 2025.
