Poll: Americans Have Mixed Expectations On What President-elect Trump Will Accomplish

A new poll finds voters are feeling positive about Trump’s language on how to deal with illegal immigration and reduce crime.

But on other issues, Americans have mixed expectations of what Trump has promised to fulfill in his second term.

Gallup, which conducted the poll, showed that 68% believe Trump gained control of illegal immigration. Other topics where a majority of voters feel Trump will do well were reducing unemployment, stopping terrorism from hitting the U.S., improving the economy, not involving the U.S. in any war, and cutting taxes.

The areas where voters don’t believe Trump will do well are political unity, the environment, improving healthcare, better race relations, improving education, reducing the federal budget deficit, and seeing the cost of groceries reduced.

The partisanship in the poll was very evident.

Most Republicans, 66% to 99%, said they were optimistic Trump will accomplish many of the goals he has set forward.

Among Democrats, 33% said they believe Trump will control illegal immigration.

Voters believe Trump seems to be more focused this time around than previously when he was elected in 2016.

Compared to 2016 when Trump was first elected, Gallup says voters give him higher marks than before. On illegal immigration, Trump’s numbers have increased 9 points since 2016, and 8 points on the issue of reducing the crime rate. Gallups also notes that today, Trump has a 6-point increase in improving race relations versus 2016.

The analysis says Trump’s big challenges are his DOGE commission on cutting government waste, improving the way the federal government works, and reducing the federal budget deficit.
