A recent NBC News poll looked at which government and American institutions most voters trusted or didn’t.
The poll found only 36% of Americans had faith in colleges and universities.
52% of Democrats had a “great deal” or “quite a bit” of trust in colleges and universities. Only 17% of GOP voters trusted colleges and universities.
On the U.S. military, 86% of Republicans trusted it, and most Democrats (58%) said the U.S. military makes them “not too proud” or “not proud at all,” or said they have “little or no confidence.”
On the current federal government, 52% had no trust.
On other institutions:
- 64% of voters have “little” or “no” trust in the national media.
- 56% of voters overall don’t have any faith in Congress.
- 43% of voters viewed religious organizations in a negative way.
The Supreme Court had around 40% of a lack of faith. That number has steadily increased among democrats.
“Over the last 20 years these numbers are 20 or 30 points higher than they’ve been. Just deteriorating confidence. You could see a partisan divide a little bit on these too. Republicans much more distrustful of the media, Democrats extremely negative on the Supreme Court,” said NBC media analyst Steve Kornacki.
On the future of America, most voters felt the best days were behind them.
Almost 60% said the best days were “Behind us,” and 38% said the country’s best days are ahead.
90% of GOP voters said they were “extremely or very” proud to be American, but only 29% of Democrats felt the same way.
