Poll Shows Trump Leading Big in Key Areas but Barely Up Over Biden

Regarding the economy and immigration, former President Donald Trump leads incumbent President Joe Biden by double digits. A Fox News poll finds voters said the economy (37%) was the number issue they were focused on, next was immigration at 21% then abortion at 10%.

Trump has a 14-point advantage over Biden on the economy and a 70-point spread over Biden on immigration. But while the former president is leading his opponent on the key issues, the poll shows Trump only beating Biden by just two points, 49-47% which is within the margin of error.

One of the reasons why it could be close is Biden has a 56-point margin over Trump on the issue of abortion.

In the same poll, Trump’s GOP rival Nikki Haley, beats Biden by 8 points, 50-42%.

But things change when the third-party candidates are included.

Trump leads Biden 41-38 percent with both losing votes to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who gets 13% followed by Cornel West (3%), and Jill Stein (2%).

If Haley is in the 5-way mix, she loses to Kennedy 35-28% and Biden 28-24%.

TRUMP LEGAL CHALLENGES

On upcoming trial cases that involve the former president, the poll found that most voters (54%) believe the charges against Trump are legitimate.

That included Democrats (86%), independents (64%) and around 20 percent of republicans. But just under half (45%) said the charges against Trump were motivated by politics.

BIDEN IMPEACHMENT

Republicans have announced they plan to wrap up their impeachment inquiries sometime this spring. But only 45% believe an impeachment of President Biden is legitimate compared to 52% who say it’s a waste of time. Majorities of Democrats (84%) and independents (57%) call them bogus while most Republicans (79%) say they’re legitimate.

APPROVAL NUMBER GOING INTO ELECTION

When looking back at a former presidents at this time where they were at when going into reelection, currently Biden is sat 42%, Trump was at 45% approval in 2020, and Obama 45% in 2012, and Bush 53% in 2004.
