Amazon is expanding its footprint in Brevard County with the recent acquisition of approximately 90 acres in West Melbourne, signaling plans for a new operations facility in Central Florida.
The e-commerce and cloud computing giant purchased eight parcels of land near Interstate 95 and U.S. Highway 192 for $59 million on July 28. The seller was a group of entities tied to New York-based Acquest Development. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the company’s intent to open a new operations facility on the site, though planning remains in its early stages and further details have not yet been released.
Amazon already maintains a strong presence in the region, employing nearly 6,900 people across Central Florida, including about 1,800 workers in Brevard, Volusia, and Flagler counties. In 2022, the company opened a 141,000-square-foot last-minute delivery station on Samo Road in West Melbourne.
This move follows another major investment in the region: a $200 million, 630,000-square-foot robotics fulfillment center in Daytona Beach, which is expected to open by early fall. That facility will focus on picking, packing, and shipping customer orders using advanced robotics technology. Amazon Public Relations Specialist Greg Rios previously noted the company’s robotics centers help employees learn new skills while improving safety and efficiency.
Amazon’s growth in Florida comes amid strong financial results. The company reported a 13% year-over-year increase in net sales for the second quarter, reaching $167.7 billion. It expects third-quarter sales to rise to between $174 billion and $179.5 billion, representing a 10-13% increase over the same period in 2024.
CEO Andy Jassy credited Amazon’s expanding use of artificial intelligence as a key driver of growth. The company has integrated AI into its Alexa+ virtual assistant, online shopping tools, and logistics systems, including optimizing workflow for over a million warehouse robots and simplifying software development tasks.
Amazon also continues to make strides in space technology. In the second quarter, the company completed two successful launches for Project Kuiper, its satellite internet initiative. Amazon’s satellite processing facility is based at Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island.
