A poll released last week showed Gov. Ron DeSantis is treading water in Florida, thanks to losing support with independents.

Morning Consult released a poll showing 48 percent of Florida voters approve of DeSantis while another 48 percent disapprove of him. A Morning Consult program taken at the end of June and the first day of July showed DeSantis with 54 percent approval and 40 percent disapproval.

In the poll taken at the start of the summer, 24 percent of Democrats approved of DeSantis while 72 percent disapproved of him while 87 percent of Republicans approved of the governor while 9 percent disapproved of him.  In the new poll, 76 percent of Democrats disapproved of DeSantis while 21 percent approved of him. DeSantis also dropped with Republicans though 83 percent of them approve of him and 14 percent disapprove of him.

The poll showed DeSantis lost ground with independents over the summer. In the poll at the start of the summer, DeSantis had the approval of 50 percent of independents and 38 percent disapproved of him. In the new poll, those numbers have been reversed with 40 percent of independents approving of the governor while 51 percent disapproved of him.

The poll of 4,174 registered voters in Florida was taken from Aug. 21 through Aug. 30 and had a margin of error of +/- 1 percent with the samples by party affiliation with a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.
