Tallahassee Airport Has Highest Average Flight Prices in US, Study Shows

A new study has found that Tallahassee Regional Airport has the highest average prices for flights in America.

Airport fare research was conducted by QR Code Generator analyzed data for 2024 from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) on the average fares at each airport. The research analyzed 150 of the largest airports in America (based on the number of passengers) to find which has had the most expensive average fares.
According to the data, the average ticket fare for Tallahassee flight was $561.69. The average fare across the largest 150 airports is $383.80, therefore the average fare at Tallahassee is $177.89 more expensive.

Huntsville, Ala, often referred to as “Rocket City” due to its ties to the space industry, ranks second. With fares averaging $543.66. Over in their neighbor state Tennessee, Chattanooga had the third-highest average fare, at $528.25.

“The 2024 airfare data reflects broader trends in rising travel costs, particularly for smaller airports or those in remote locations,” said Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator. “While these airports may offer convenience or serve vital regional roles, travelers can expect to pay a premium for departing from them. For those looking to save, considering alternate airports or planning well in advance could help mitigate these higher fares.”
