The US Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy looks at every state in the country and analyzes what the top 5 industries are for small businesses in terms of popularity.
Most small businesses in Florida are sole proprietorships or freelancers, and the latest information from the SBA highlights the top five most popular small businesses in Florida
At the top of the list for the most popular sector for small businesses in Florida was the Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services industry, with 441,622 firms. This category covers industries such as law, IT, consulting, architecture, and marketing.
Second is the Transportation and Warehousing sector, with 423,991 small businesses. This industry includes local trucking firms, logistics providers, and storage operations.
At number three was Administrative, Support, and Waste Management with 402,037 firms. This includes cleaning companies, landscaping, staffing agencies, security services, and waste management.
The Other Services (except Public Administration) sector is the fourth most common industry for small businesses in Florida, with 390,213 firms. It includes businesses such as auto repair shops, salons, pet groomers, dry cleaners, and many more.
Despite some economists saying the housing sector is in a recession, the Real Estate and Rental and Leasing sector ranks fifth among small business industries in Florida, with 372,831 small businesses statewide.
This industry includes residential and commercial real estate agents and brokerages, property managers, landlords, and businesses that rent vehicles, equipment, or commercial space.
Cloud-based Customer Relationship Management software company Ringy, (ringy.com) COO Carlos J. Correa, said the data by the SBA shows that over the past year, small businesses have driven much of the net job growth in many states, contributing substantially to local economies.
