A congressman from the Sunshine State is showcasing his support of U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson’s, R-Iowa, proposal to “prohibit taxpayer dollars from funding secret charter flights transporting illegal immigrants into the interior of the U.S.”
Hinson introduced the “Stop the Betrayal Act” with more than 35 Republican co-sponsors including U.S. Reps. Vern Buchanan, Byron Donalds, Brian Mast, John Rutherford and Dan Webster.
“It is infuriating that the Biden administration is flying illegal immigrants into the U.S. in the dead of night, on the taxpayers’ dime–they have zero regard for the safety of our communities. Instead of securing our border by enforcing the Remain in Mexico policy, giving border patrol agents the resources they need, and completing the wall–the administration is pursuing a ‘catch and release’ policy and secretly flying illegal immigrants into the country with no way to track to them. The Stop the Betrayal Act will prevent your paycheck from funding these secret flights transporting illegal immigrants into the U.S.,” Hinson said when she brought out the bill.
Webster weighed in on the bill at the end of February.
“I will keep advocating for and supporting policies that secure our borders and reform our immigration laws,” said Webster. “This is one of my top priorities and I will continue to advocate for using Congress’ constitutional power of the purse to prohibit this lawless administration from continuing these actions.”
The bill was sent to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee at the end of January. So far, there is no companion measure over in the U.S. Senate. With Democrats controlling both chambers on Capitol Hill, the bill will have a tough time getting through Congress.
