BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A Brooksville man previously arrested on child sexual abuse material charges has been taken into custody again after authorities accused him of planning to flee the country using the identity of a disabled elderly man.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested 62-year-old Paul Wolaver on a charge of solicitation to commit exploitation of an elderly person, a third-degree felony.
Wolaver was initially arrested by FDLE agents on June 10 on charges of possessing child sexual abuse material and promoting a sexual performance by a child. He was later released from the Hernando County Jail after being granted bond.
According to FDLE, agents received reports July 18 that Wolaver was making plans to leave the United States to avoid prosecution. Investigators allege he attempted to steal the identity of a disabled elderly man as part of the plan.
Agents executed another search warrant at Wolaver’s Brooksville residence July 22. FDLE said investigators collected documents and electronic communications that corroborated witness accounts concerning his alleged plans to assume the victim’s identity.
Wolaver was re-arrested and booked into the Hernando County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
The Florida Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution is handling the case. FDLE said the investigation remains active.
