Families staying at Orlando Union Rescue Mission have new places to gather, and adults looking for work have a new place to find interview clothes, after about 100 Target volunteers spent Tuesday working across the Mission’s Washington Street campus.
The project was Target’s lone Florida stop this year on its Bullseye Builds tour, a national program that pairs company volunteers with Target’s design team to improve spaces local nonprofits say they need most. Target is completing 13 of the projects across the country in 2026, supported by a $1 million investment.
In Orlando, the to-do list came from the Mission’s own staff and clients. Volunteers set up a clothing closet stocked with Target apparel for people going through the Mission’s career services program. They built and painted new picnic tables for outdoor gathering areas, spread fresh mulch across the grounds and playground, pulled weeds, swapped out ceiling tiles and sealed the building’s exterior. Target also presented the Mission with a $5,000 community grant.
Orlando Union Rescue Mission focuses on keeping families together. It offers transitional housing, shelter and stabilization services for single parents, women and families experiencing homelessness in Central Florida, along with on-site licensed childcare, adult education classes and job-readiness mentoring. The Mission also serves more than 400,000 free meals each year.
Target launched Bullseye Builds in 2024. Before this year’s slate began, the program had already contributed to 25 community spaces nationwide, with more than 2,000 team members volunteering and more than 250,000 community members impacted, according to the company. The builds are part of Target’s broader goal of 1 million volunteer hours a year, a mark its team members reached in 2025.
Locally, Target gave more than $4.6 million in product and cash donations in the greater Orlando area in 2025, including more than 2.2 million pounds of food to local food banks. Its team members also logged more than 6,400 volunteer hours in the community.
