During the four years of the Biden administration, Republicans criticized Biden for not doing enough to protect and safeguard programs for military veterans.
Now, legislation just passed by the U.S. House will expand programs for Florida veterans.
Initiatives and other items in the bill include:
- Fully-funded veteran health care programs and benefits.
- Investment for military construction, specifically in the Indo-Pacific region, and improve military family housing.
- Support for President Trump’s efforts to combat veteran homelessness.
- Protection of the Second Amendment rights of our veterans.
- Codification of President Trump’s Executive Orders by removing DEI and gender affirming care and protecting Hyde Amendment-like language at the VA.
Democrats opposed the bill because it limited tax dollars to cover abortions and “Gender-affirming care” at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) .
A significant portion of the $152 billion will be allocated to the VA, and an additional $300 billion will be dedicated to mandatory funding for veterans’ benefits.
On the Pentagon side, $18 billion is allocated for military construction and family housing projects, which is almost $500 million more than last year.

“President Trump promised the American people that over the next four years we would refocus our fighting force on keeping our country safe, champion our veterans, support military families, and honor our American heroes,” Florida Republican Congressman John Rutherford said. “As appropriators, we are focused on delivering real results for the American people by eliminating waste, demanding accountability, and funding American priorities to keep our country strong and promote fiscal responsibility. This legislation is worthy of the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform, our veterans, and their families, and should make all Americans proud.”
