Florida’s Gamers Are America’s Most Employable, Study Shows

If Florida business owners are looking for employees who are reliable and solve problems, hire someone who plays video games, according to new data from digital platform group Slotozilla.

The company conducted a situational judgment test among video game players across the US and identified some surprising discrepancies in employability between US states. The study measured player proficiency in the most popular game genres, including open-world and action, as well as in titles such as Minecraft and Mario Kart. “Gamers in Florida scored high for leadership, communication, and time management,” said Slotozilla.

Key findings:

Gamers in the Sunshine State of Florida were deemed to have the most transferable skills in the entire US. Floridians appear to be most employable as team leaders or line managers.

85% of gamers based in Florida exhibited transferable leadership and dependability traits.

Job site firm Indeed also said gamers showed strengths at the workplace they including leadership, problem-solving, adaptability, and communication. Many of these overlap with abilities developed through gaming, such as critical thinking, teamwork, and planning.

Gamers in Florida came out on top within the study, scoring consistently highly across the board for the employable skills they picked up while gaming. 4 out of 5 scored highly for Leadership & Dependability, and just under 80% demonstrated strength in Time Management and Communication.

Regarding the skills where Florida gamers led, “The higher you go, the more that conflict plays a role — there is never enough money to fund all of the needs. One has to be better at communicating in conflict and have leadership skills that bring along a team with decisions that may not be entirely popular,” said the Job Doctor CEO, Tessa White.
