Florida State University interim head football coach Rick Stockstill held his introductory press conference Monday, November 2, emphasizing his love for the Seminoles, respect for former head coach Mike Norvell, and commitment to restoring the program’s winning tradition.
Stockstill, a former FSU quarterback who played under legendary coach Bobby Bowden, described the opportunity to lead his alma mater as surreal.
Stockstill credited Bowden as one of the most influential figures in his life and stressed the responsibility of honoring the program’s history and former players. Stockstill also praised Norvell for his dedication to Florida State, saying the best way players can show their respect for the former coach is through their effort and competitiveness on the field. Despite the Seminoles’ disappointing 3-5 record, Stockstill expressed optimism about the program’s future, saying, “It’s not broke, we got some dents in it we gotta get fixed,” while emphasizing that everyone must work together to turn things around. Looking ahead to Florida State’s final four regular-season games, Stockstill made it clear that winning immediately is his top priority rather than evaluating players for next season. He plans to make adjustments to the team’s practice schedule and organizational structure, with offensive coordinator Tim Harris Jr. assuming play-calling responsibilities and former Seminole standout Ernie Sims serving as interim defensive coordinator. Stockstill stressed the importance of discipline, toughness, passion and accountability as FSU prepares to face Boston College on Saturday, November 7. He also urged frustrated Seminoles fans to remain loyal to the program, expressing confidence that Florida State can eventually return to national prominence. Stockstill, who previously spent 18 seasons as head coach at Middle Tennessee State, will guide the Seminoles through the remainder of the season while university officials conduct a national search for Norvell’s permanent replacement. https://www.wctv.tv +2
