This week, U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is sending a second “Assistance to Firefighters” Grant (AFG) to Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR).
DHS is sending an additional $184,111.28 through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Back in June, GFR received $47,122 in AFG funds.
“I’m glad to see another Assistance to Firefighters Grant awarded here in North Central Florida,” said Cammack. “Our departments work hard to keep our communities safe and we will continue to support them to ensure they have the resources necessary to do their jobs safely.”
“This is another win for our department, the city’s leadership team, and the community served. Thank you, Congresswoman Cammack, for standing up for the interests of first responders,” said GFR Chief Joseph Dixon.
Cammack was a longtime aide to former U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., helping him pull off one of the largest upsets in recent Florida political history when he upended longtime U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., in the primary back in 2012. In 2020, Cammack won the seat that Yoho held after he stuck to his promise of only serving four terms in the House. She won a second term last year.
