Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed that Epic Universe is already preparing for future expansion, less than a year after the theme park’s grand opening. The confirmation came through an official statement emailed to media outlets, in which Universal said it is “preparing for some exciting additions to Universal Epic Universe in the future,” with details to be announced at a later date. The statement was first reported by the Orlando Business Journal and later echoed by outlets including PEOPLE.
Much to the dismay of fans of Back to the Future and JAWS, no evidence has been presented yet to suggest that either of those popular Universal Studios Florida rides will be rebooted and relaunched in the new area.
While Universal has not provided specifics, industry watchers widely believe at least one portion of the expansion may be tied to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The franchise continues to be one of Universal’s most bankable brands, and previous Harry Potter expansions in both Florida and California have consistently driven massive crowds. Theme park analysts quoted by PEOPLE emphasized that Universal’s decision to acknowledge future additions so soon after opening strongly hints that major IP-based projects are already moving forward internally.
Much of the speculation centers on a rumored new Harry Potter ride concept that would differ from the franchise’s existing attractions, possibly incorporating elements from the Fantastic Beasts era or unexplored locations within the Wizarding World canon. Fan-driven decoding of permits and aerial imagery suggests a building footprint large enough to support either a next-generation dark ride or a hybrid coaster-dark ride platform, similar in scale to “Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.”
Another factor fueling the Harry Potter rumors is the park’s master-plan layout, which includes undeveloped parcels intentionally left open during initial construction. Analysts interviewed by WDWNT pointed out that Universal often builds its major parks in phases—opening initial lands before adding high-demand expansions once guest traffic patterns and revenue stabilize. Epic Universe appears to follow that same pattern, making a Wizarding World expansion an attractive next step.
Universal is keeping quiet on the specifics. But its public confirmation that expansion is officially underway marks a significant development for Florida’s theme-park landscape and positions Epic Universe as a continually evolving competitor to Disney and other regional attractions. As Universal prepares to reveal more, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely—especially those eager to see whether the next portal added to Epic Universe will transport guests deeper into the world of Harry Potter.
