A recent survey by Rasmussen Reports has found that an increasing number of voters are concerned about the US government’s perceived threat to religious liberty. The survey reports that 56% of likely voters believe that the federal government poses a threat to Americans’ religious rights, which is more than double the percentage of those who consider the government as a protector of religious rights (26%). Approximately 17% of respondents were unsure. The results of the survey indicate a significant increase in the number of voters who view the government as a threat, in comparison to the survey conducted in 2017. In 2017, 39% of voters viewed the federal government as a protector of religious rights, while 38% saw it as a threat.
Only 15% believe most politicians in Washington, D.C., govern as though they believe in God, while 59% say no. Another 26% are not sure.

An MSNBC contributor recently sparked controversy by warning of an “extremist element” of Christian nationalists who believe that “our rights as Americans…come from God”. This belief has been endorsed by the Declaration of Independence. A survey shows that 26% of voters believe their rights come from God, whereas 60% believe their rights come from the Constitution. Only 10% of voters think that their rights come from the federal government.
