Study Shows Florida Ranks Near The Bottom for Tech Careers

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), jobs in tech and computing are set to grow much faster than other fields between 2024 and 2034, with an estimated 317,700 openings being projected each year across America.

To determine which were the best and worst states to work in if you have a career in tech, online cybersecurity tech platform TryHackMe broke down the numbers by the average yearly cost of a tech degree.  The number of schools in each state offering tech courses. The median earnings for tech graduates four years after graduating. The median earnings of a tech graduate in comparison to the average graduate and the percentage of tech graduates out of all graduates.

Florida was in the top 10 worst states, ranked 40th, with tech graduates earning 65% more than the average.

The state has 397 schools offering tech courses, with average annual tuition of $18,552. Tech graduates earn a median of $50,762 after four years, compared to $30,768 for graduates overall – a 65% increase.

Alaska, Wyoming and Utah are named the best states to live in for those working in tech.

Rhode Island, Hampshire and Maine are among the worst states to live in if you’re starting out a career in the tech sector.

“The prospects for tech graduates are among the best in any field, and it’s only set to grow stronger with the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting that tech is likely to have a bigger job boom than most sectors,” said Ben Spring, Co-Founder TryHackMe.
