Will Florida Democrats Coronate Kamala Harris for President?

After President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the presidential race this year, Florida Democrats didn’t waste any time before all jumping on the “Harris 2024” ticket.

“It’s an exciting time for him to pass the torch,” said Rep. Kathy Castor. Florida State Senator democratic leader Lauren Book said, “I am proud to endorse Vice President @KamalaHarris for President of the United States of America.”

Other Florida democrats followed as well. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried, Reps. Frederica Wilson, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Lois Frankel.

But not all well- known Democrats are on board.

Major donor, Florida attorney John Morgan says the party needs to pick a moderate who can appeal to swing voters. “The party would have been better served by “someone who will appear more moderate” to voters,’ said Morgan.

Two weeks ago, Morgan said he was holding off donating to the Democratic Party because there was too much uncertainty about whether Biden would run. Now that Biden isn’t running, Morgan’s attitude still hasn’t changed. He says he has no plans of fundraising for Harris because he’s not convinced she is the best option for 2024.

South Florida Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz told Fox News, that having Harris on the top of the allows Democrats to have a reset and “now talk about a women’s right to choose, Roe v. Wade, that is going to be the reset for her (Harris). It worked in 2023, it worked in 2022, and I think this not the conversation Republicans want to have,” said the Congressman.
