NTSB Investigating 2 Brightline Train Crashes That Occurred at Same Intersection Last Week

The NTSB is investigating Brightline train crashes in Melbourne, Florida that resulted in multiple deaths.

Following two accidents that occurred last week in Melbourne, Fla, the National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating two crashes that involved Brightline trains and killed a total of three people at the same railroad crossing.

According to a report from WKMG News 6 (CBS’ News Central Florida Affiliate), the NTSB said a preliminary investigative report will be released within the next month.Friday’s crash killed two Melbourne residents, driver Lisa Batchelder and passenger Michael Degasperi. Last Wednesday, 62-year-old Charles Phillips was killed when his SUV was hit by the train.

According to local officials, video footage revealed that Phillips drove around the railroad crossing and tried to outrun the train.
