United Airlines Launches $315M Expansion at Orlando International Airport

United Airlines has launched a $315 million expansion project at Orlando International Airport.

According to a report from the Orlando Business Journal, construction began on March 27 for a new 354,400-square-foot maintenance campus along Tradeport Drive, which will include two hangars, a warehouse, and workspaces for approximately 1,000 employees. The facility is expected to open in late 2027 and will centralize United’s Orlando-based Technical Operations.

“This project is crucial for our growth strategy,” said Kirk Limacher, United’s Senior Vice President of Technical Operations. He noted that consolidating maintenance operations will improve efficiency and lower costs.

The new development will replace outdated structures, including a hangar built in 1954. Kevin Thibault, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, highlighted that removing these old facilities will free up valuable land for new business opportunities.

In 2024, United held the seventh-largest market share at Orlando International, serving 4.49 million passengers with over 40 daily departures. Tim Giuliani, President and CEO of the Orlando Economic Partnership, called the investment a significant boost for the region, enhancing competitiveness and growth potential.
